My Crochet Journey

From the time I was old enough to hold a crayon, I’ve drawn, colored, or inked different things.

When I was about nine, I discovered plastic canvas and yarn pictures, though I didn’t stick with it.

When I was eleven, I saw how to make yarn dolls in one of my schoolbooks, and made a bunch from the different colored yarns I had.

When I was about thirteen, I discovered Sculpey clay, the oven bake stuff, and wanted to make my own toys.

When I was fifteen, I went back to plastic canvas in a crafts class at school and decided to try making 3D stuff, instead of just flat pieces of plastic canvas with whatever picture done on them. I made a Beatles stage I’ve never finished, and a carousel I’ve never finished. They’re still in my craft room with the intention I’ll complete them one day.

When I was 32, in 2014, I went to NYCC and saw a booth where the person was selling small crocheted dolls. There was a BBC Sherlock doll she’d made that I loved, but the price was HIGH. I understood because it’s a handmade item, and the cost of the booth and all the other thing associated with being part of a con have to be taken into account. But I knew if I learned how to cr4ochet, I could make that doll, no problem.

It took me another year to finally sit down and find a YouTube video that I could follow, but in December of 2015, at 33 years old, that’s exactly what I did. Once things clicked for me, I was off!

I’ve been crocheting ever since, and I have so many, many things I want to create, so check back often, because there will always be new pictures I have up either here or on my Facebook page.

The ironic thing? I’ve never actually sat down to make a Sherlock doll for myself.
